10th Anniversary: Crackdown by Realtime Worlds

Released on February 23rd 2007 for the Xbox 360, Crackdown was designed to exceed the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto, and to be released on the Xbox. However, Microsoft pushed to have it released on the Xbox 360 instead.

Interesting facts about Crackdown
-When the game was near ready for release, demographic interest and hype was considered extremely low, so a multiplayer beta was released with Halo 3. This is considered to be the key aspect of the game’s sales upon release.
-The game was planned to have over 200 achievements, however, Microsoft had a cap of 50 per title at the time. They did increase the cap to 80 from requests from Realtime Worlds. To counter the issue, there are multiple in-game rewards the player can instead achieve.
-The game’s development started in 2002, with an intended release date for the Xbox in 2005.
-To assist Realtime Worlds’ budget and staffing issues, Microsoft had multiple programmers come on board to assist in development.
