40th Anniversary: Battlezone by Atari, Inc.

Released in 1980 in the arcades, and ported to the Atari 2600 in 1983.


Interesting facts about Battlezone
-According to How Long to Beat’s website the average play through takes about 20-30 mins to complete.
-Earned an honorable mention for “Best Commercial Arcade Game” for 1982, and was a runner up to Pac-Man.
-Considered one the earliest successes for 3D games, if not the “first big 3D success.”
-Currently, about 14 games are sold per month for the Atari 2600 version.
-Battlezone was recommissioned as a training simulator for the US Army. Two prototypes were produced, one supposedly lost, and the other is in a private collection after the owner found it next to a dumpster outside of Midway’s parking lot.
