20th Anniversary: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night by Konami

Released on March 20th, 1997, this game is a sequel to the Rondo of Blood, taking place 4 years later. Symphony of the Night would be Koji Igarashi’s first time developing a Castlevania title. Even though critics loved the game, it took awhile for the game to gain popularity and sales. It is considered one of the best games ever made, even though it started off with a cult following.

Interesting facts about Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
-You play as Dracula’s son, Alucard, who must find and defeat Richter Belmont, the hero from Rondo of Blood.
-This game entry was a change from the typical action platformer, and helped define the term: Metroidvania.
-Because of this, the game is largely inspired by Super Metroid and The Legend of Zelda
-The project was originally cancelled as a Sega 32x project.
