25th Anniversary: Kirby’s Dream Land by HAL Laboratory

Kirby’s Dream Land was released on April 27th, 1992 for the original Game Boy. It was the first game to feature Kirby and defined most of the mechanics surrounding Kirby used today. The only notable mechanic missing is Kirby’s ability to “copy” enemies when he swallowed them.

Interesting facts about Kirby’s Dream Land
-Kirby was originally designed as a “dummy” character. He would be used for testing the game through its development but was planned to be replaced by “a more sophisticated image”. The designers grew to like him so much that they decided to keep him.
-Kirby was defined by Nintendo to be pink, however, the box art for the Game Boy game depicts a white Kirby. This was to keep the visual look more similar to the grey scale graphics of the Game Boy.
