25th Anniversary: Wolfenstein 3D by id Software

May 5th 1992 saw the release of Wolfenstein 3D for MS-DOS. It is most known for popularizing the first person shooter genre and has served as inspiration for FPS games for years to come. The game was designed to be a remake of Castle Wolfenstein by Muse Software released in 1981.

Interesting facts about Wolfenstein 3D
-The developers only made a monthly salary of $750.
-FormGen, another software company, contacted id Software about the violent nature of Wolfenstein 3D, which the team responded by increasing those aspects.
-The game’s unique fast paced gameplay was extremely unique for its time, John Carmack who designed the 3D engine explained that 3D was reserved for powerful computers for flight simulators.
-The game was ported to the SNES, among  others.
